UPDATES ON MY LIFE… for those who care :)

July 8th, 2007

many of you know by now that we are living in FL, but for those of you who don’t know… well… here we are. i went through a major culture shock but i’m finally… slooowly… adjusting to my new environment. uh… the humidity is killing me and i don’t think i’ll ever get used to that though.

I GOT A JOB!!! i’m working as a server at an expensive gourmet french/mediterranian restaurant. i’m getting trained on wines and cocktails and all kinds of other things. the people are very nice and so far, so good and the tips are way to good to be true.

on other news:

about 2-3 months ago i received an invitation to be on the board of a non-profit org called VillageNext - villagenext.com - and i joyfully accepted. in october we are going to travel to ethiopia to meet with a UN official and her husband who is the minister of women’s health. i’ll keep you all posted on the trip through buid A village.

i’ll write some more soon.
au revoir.

a letter to my son

June 4th, 2007

my dearest son,

where did time go? it just seems like it was yesterday that i was feeding you a bottle, wiping your pooppie diaper and handing you “your blankie and your pappy”. you never needed to be pacified though, you were always an easy and happy baby.

i look at you now and you’re living on your own, going to school, dating the love of your life… sorry, i used the word dating, i know you don’t believe in that :) anyway, you’re making the most of your life and i’m so proud of you. you bring joy to my heart and i miss you.

19 years ago you were born and my world has never been the same… it has become better.

Back in Brazil

January 27th, 2007

hey everyone… let me start by saying - i’m not dead… lol. since some of you showed an interest in what i might have to share - no matter how lame or stupid… haha - i decided to come out of hibernation :)

i started to write a response back to all the comments on my last post but when i clicked submit i lost everything and didn’t feel like re-writing it all, so i decided to post instead. thank you guys for reading my blog. i hold you all, my internet buddies and vox neighbors, very close to my heart.

anyway, i’ve been in brazil for almost 2 months, and i have to say that i’m having a great time. i hadn’t seen my fam for… get this… 8 long years, can you believe that? so, i’m enjoying every bit of time here. i’ve been eating like crazy too, all those delicious childhood brazilian dishes that i’ve so dreamed about while away… needless to say i gotta be stingy on my eating when i get back… yikes… i love eating… hmmm… maybe after HUMANA 2.0:D

anyhoo, the city is Salvador in the state of Bahia. the city was one of the port of entrances of slavery in brazil. about 7-8 people out of 10 are of african descent in this city. you will find a strong presence of the african culture here which makes this place super interesting, some people still speak yoruba, an ancient african dialect.

thought you might be interested in seeing some cool pics of where i’ve been:

if you’re ever in salvador you must take a ride on this elevator. it’s called Elevador Lacerda. This elevator connects the upper city to the lower city, and vice-versa… duh, of course. btw, the elevator ride is less than 10 sec… so fun… and it only costs 5 brazilian cents.

the Fort of San Pedro… it’s a museum now

Mercado Modelo - the reason we rode the elevator down… shopping for souveniers :) this market was the way that food and merchandise was brought in and distributed to the city in the 1800s, now it’s a turist attraction

i’ll show you some of what’s in the upper upper city in my next post.

i loooooove boston

October 9th, 2006

some of you know that i have been infatuated with the city of boston for a while now, two years to be precise. i had never been there until this past week. i drove with lucas from orlando to providence to meet alex, then we drove to boston.

i felt like i was going on a blind date :) . as we approached the city i had butterflies in my stomach, felt anxious and happy at the same time. the only thing i didn’t do was touch up my make-up… lol.

well, i was not disappointed. boston is everything i imagined and more. big thanx to our friends jon and mary for letting us stay in their beautiful apt. in downtown boston, and thanx mary for all the time you spent showing me around.

we stayed on the 33rd floor of the tall building on the left

FINAL MOVING UPDATE

September 9th, 2006

yes, it’s me, i’m still alive. it’s been a long time since i’ve blogged but a whole lot is going on in our life right now and it’s a bit crazy, so i haven’t felt very inspired to write.

for those of you who might not know yet, we have moved from my beloved california to florida. i’m waiting for my adaptability strength to kick in, but i think it’s on vacation or decided to stay back in cali :)

anyway, i’d love to meet all of you voxers, or other bloggers, who live here in FL. leave me a comment, eh? let’s make it happen.
